Why To Choose Organic Tampons
You've probably heard all of the buzz about organic tampons, and luckily, now there are tons of options to choose from at your local pharmacy. For awhile I heard about organic tampons, but was like "Uhh what does that even mean? Aren't tampons just cotton?" Well, to my surprise, I learned that there are some other pesky ingredients hiding in tampons that everyone should be aware of. I'll break down the difference between organic and regular tampons, and why you should consider making the switch.
What's the difference between organic and conventional tampons?
First, organic tampons are typically made from 100 percent organic cotton unlike regular tampons, which are made of rayon and/or non-organic cotton. Organic tampons are also bleached with peroxide, while conventional tampons are bleached to be bright-white with chlorine.
If you look at the side of a box of tampons, it mentions it may contain rayon, polyester, or fragrance. The scary part is that the FDA does not require tampon companies to list the full ingredients or additives in tampons, so you really never know what's actually in them. I don't know about you, but the thought of random chemicals being inserted up there just doesn't sit right with me.
Does it really matter whether I choose organic or conventional?
At the end of the day, this is totally a personal decision, but it's important to be aware that the vagina is the most absorptive part of a woman's body. What you put into your body does matter!
I've tried a few different brands, and I've been liking the Lola brand. I customize my box based off of what sizes I usually need, and I have it auto-shipped to me every 4 weeks. Comment below & let me know your favorite organic tampon brand!
