10 Easy Steps To Better Health

Your health is one of the most important things you should invest your time and energy into. We all know the importance of maintaining a healthy body, but for some people it may seem confusing on where to start, or what to follow. We're constantly bombarded with all different ideas of what healthy is. "Eat this, not that." I compiled 10 easy steps you can take to achieve better health today! These tips are perfect for anyone feeling like they need a healthy reset, or if you want to be healthier and are unsure where to begin.


1. Drink More Water: Staying hydrated is important for everyone. If you currently drink two water bottles a day, aim to start drinking four.


2. Practice Cooking: Checkout my Instagram for some recipe ideas, or spend some time on Pinterest. Trying out new recipes is my favorite way to make eating healthy not boring.


3. Experiment with Whole Grains: Replace refined grains such as pasta, bread, and cereal with whole grains like quinoa, buckwheat, brown rice, and oatmeal.


4. Increase Sweet Vegetables: Winter squashes, carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, and yams are some of my favorites. I love using spaghetti squash as a pasta replacement and mashed sweet potato instead of regular potatoes.


5. Increase Leafy Green Vegetables: Green vegetables are rich in vitamins and nutrients. Kale, spinach, collard greens, romaine lettuce, micro-greens. My favorite way to eat kale is by making "Kale chips" and baking them in the oven to get them crunchy. Other ways I sneak vegetables in are in my smoothies!


6. Experiment with Protein: Adequate protein intake is important for everybody. If you're getting tired of meat, try out some plant-based proteins like hemp hearts, hemp powder, and protein powders.


7. Eat Fewer Processed Foods: These foods are high in sugar, fat, and lack essential vitamins and minerals. Try replacing your favorite processed foods, with healthier alternatives. For example, cereal can be replaced with granola, potato chips can be replaced with a healthier chip option from whole foods.


8. Enjoy Regular Physical Activity: Walking, biking, weight training, running, and yoga are examples of physical activity you can choose from. It's important to find something you enjoy doing, so that it doesn't feel like a chore.


9. Develop a Spiritual Practice: Yoga, guided mediation, and journaling are some of my favorite stress relievers. There are a ton of apps or free mediations on YouTube. One night I couldn't fall asleep, so I googled "Guided mediation for sleep" and that's still my go to!


10. Have Healthy Relationships: Do you have friendships or relationships that weigh you down, or make you unhappy? Sit and evaluate all of your relationships and what they mean to you.
